This was the first time that I tried doing a portrait completely in colour. In drawing, the switch from black and white (pencil and charcoal) to colour can be quite a daunting one. But I enjoyed experimenting with the different tones of this girl’s skin. The oranges and yellows and browns created such a gorgeous warmth. Her hair proved to be quite a challenge as I really felt that I needed to capture the weight of it as it falls over and hides her face. She really needed to peer through her hair.
